And FWIW, I was not insecure about my body around my GF. I was insecure about it in pick up situations though (previous to dating her).

Just because it is a nice thing to say doesn't make it truth so it is still a white lie to make you feel good. I never said there was anything wrong with it, you interpreted it that way.

The part that bothered me about the whole thing is your line of reasoning, which if I understood it correctly, goes along the lines of:
1) I wasn't good looking
2) She told me I was handsome and they should build statues of me
3) Women don't really care about looks that much

It tells me you actually take these things people say to eachother in relationships seriously. Of course you are free to do that, but since people here listen to you I felt it was necessary to say something about that. These things shouldn't be taken seriously at all and it most certainly does not imply that women (as a group) don't care about whether you are fit or unfit.

And I'm still waiting for someone to come along and show some evidence that there is no strong correlation between the individual physical attractivenesses of long-term couples (there is more than enough evidence that this correlation does exist by the way).
