Copenhagen
Hey Guys,

I'm interested in travelling to Copenhagen in August. Who of you has been there already and can you give me some general advice or hotel/hostel recommendations?

My budget is about 200 to 280 euros and I'd like to stay for two or three days to check out the city.

Can I realise the trip for the above mentioned amount of money?

RE: Kopenhagen
It absolutely can be done for a budget, but youll have to be extra savvy about your travels. I lived there for 6 months last year- truly a world class city

here are some recommendations:

use Wiki travel for finding hostels and tips. its an amazing resource for any city or place; i just travelled SE asia and would have been lost without it. Although hostels are far more than other cities..

the metro is world class and runs all night. never 'forget' to buy a ticket, the metro cops are always out in force!

I lived nearby a Best Western...they have a huge breakfast buffet, for the guests- but located in the lobby, so easily accessible if you just stroll in and take a seat. If you want a free meal and are feeling adventurous...try this

shop at the Fotex for your meals. its the best grocery store; not dirty like Aldi, but cheap and good value.

If you go out partying, K3 (which is very difficult to find) has unlimited alcohol for about 200 DKK (aprx 30 american dollars), Mini Bar is a cheap and super fun dance bar just off Stroget (the main walking strip with shops etc). karel is a classier, slightly more expensive option. lastly Kulor bar is a super fun bar with lots of dancing and unlimited beer until 1 am for 70 dkk (about 12 dollars).

happy travelling!

Thanks for the information.

I'm just not sure, if I shall stay in a hotel or a hostel. How is it sleeping in a room with seven other people? How did you guys like it? Is it annoying, loud or adventurous and fun?

RE: Kopenhagen
At some hostels you can get a private room.

In my limited experience hostel people tend to be communicative and friendly, albeit a bit alternative at times.
I guess it will also depend on the location: If your hostel is near the "party-area" of a city you might get groups of people who are there to drink and party, so it'll be rather loud.
If you stay somewhere more out of the way chances are better to get a quieter crowd.

Also, if you book on sites such as booking.com or hostelbookers.com you can read reviews by former guests, and some make references whether it is more of a party hostel or not.

But in the end you'll be there to sleep and nothing more for two or three nights, so pack some earplugs and a sleeping mask and you'll be fine, I guess.

P.S. You could also try couchsurfing since you are staying only for a couple of nights. Chances are you have to send out a lot of requests to get a place to stay, though.

If you want some more privacy and keep within budget there's always CS or you can try airbnb.com - a marketplace for rooms and flats. If you read their feedback, you can see that some are pretty helpful and friendly.

Booked. I'll fly alone in November and I'm excited, but also a bit nervous. It will be an adventure Smile

Yo Edmund,

I'm gonna be in Copenhagen for 4 days in February. Any must see's or must do's/hidden gems to share? Thinking about doing an afternoon at Helsingor too to see the Hamlet castle.

4 days are more than enough to see everything of Copenhagen. But what are you most interested in? Party guy or culture?

RE: Copenhagen
I see Smile

Okay here is a list of things you have to do or see when you're in Copenhagen:

-Visit Christiana, the hippie quarter of Copenhagen. It's a must and really interesting. There you can buy and smoke week legaly, if you want to. And meet interesting people.
-Visit the Tivoli (if you've got enough money, I didn't, but I'm sure its worth the price)
-Visit the National Museum. I really enjoyed the exhibitions there and it's free. So definitely check it out.
-Take a look at the march of the King's guard. Every day at twelve o clock, they march to the palace. I liked it.
-See the little mermaid. I was a little disappointed by the statues size, but hey when you're in Paris, you'll check the Eiffeltower as well, so stop by.
-Shop in the Stroget. It's the main shopping street in Copenhagen and it's relatively big. I enjoyed checking out clothes at the northern part of the Stroget, where they present the best, most expensive brands.
-Check out Nyhaun, but don't have a meal in a restaurant there. They're really expensive. Fun note: When I visited Copenhagen, I went to one the most expensive restaurants there and didn't notice in the beginning. Big mistake Wink

These are just some tips. I can give you some more at the weekend.
