Moving out? - juggernaut92 - 04-07-2012 04:42 PM

I really want to move out because living with my parents is absolutely the worst. I am a college student and don't really have a job at the moment. I was wondering if it would still be a good idea to move out and then take a huge amount of debt? Has anyone already done this? I just want to move out not just for pickup but to become happier in general.

Does your school not have dorms or something?

It does. But it would be more expensive than to just move into a house nearby the college. I just wanted to get someone opinion who already has done something like this. Like moving out and taking a huge loan or something

1. Get a part-time job. Save some money.
2. Move out.

Do both ASAP.

Yeah alright. They are hiring right now for jobs on campus so maybe I can get one of those. I am just looking forward to moving out. I am still uncertain but I feel like it is the best option to take.

It is. Moving out is the biggest one step to independence you can take - I think that even when my parents are super supportive and not strict at all. I'd give yourself a date as 'moving week' in 4-6 months. Work a shitload, save up and get somewhere cheap, with roommates if you need to. Don't dig yourself a big debt hole you can't get out of though (i.e be earning something). It's worth checking out if your campus offers financial support to students.

hmm okay. Yeah it just seems like such a big step. Looking back, I wish I saved my money (I have held 4 part time jobs since turning 15). But I guess I was just a little too crazy about buying useless stuff lol. Anyways, the advice is great and I will start saving up.

It's worth seeing if you can sell off some old useless shit too, like games or clothes. Every little helps.

Yes this is true. I have a lot of useless junk so I should start selling all of it.

Move out. ASAP. Doesn't have to be the nicest place in the world, just find your own place. It'll make you resilient.
