What's your favorite TV shows?
Jersey Shores: Like him or hate him, his behavior works in getting hot chicks. Granted, they're probably low quality human beings, but if you suffer from extreme nice guy syndrome, it's not bad to copy his behavior for a few months.

Entourage: Vincent Chase has the ultimate "lifestyle". If you have that lifestyle, you dont need pua or community lol.

Keys to the VIP: This is the closest thing you'll get to a "pua club game" tv show.

------------------------------------

Non pua related tv shows

The Shield: This is the best cop show i've ever seen. Almost every season is good and it's 7 season.

Rome: The best historical tv show i've seen. Great description of roman culture. I heard hbo spend 80 million dollars to make this show and the production value shows how good it is.

Breaking Bad: Very entertaining show about drugs dealing and people's pathetic lives in arizona.

Battlestar galactica: First season is pretty good but it went down hill after that. Boring as fuck after first season.

Dexter: First and second season are great. The last 2-3 season are shit.

The wired: actually, i hate the wired, boring as fuck show. Watch the shield instead Big Grin

The soprano: The pacing of this show is too slow for me, never like it.

To be fair, the "behavior" on the jersey shore that gets the most women is being followed around by cameras. Also, what you don't see is that the production assistants wander around the clubs and find girls for the cast members, saying shit like "wanna be on mtv? Come have free drinks"

Lately I've been watching Supernatural. The script may have hit a snag after the fifth season, but the dialogue is their golden egg right there. There is a snarky hunter, a hedonistic angel, an angel who takes the literal meaning of everything. The characters are very very enjoyable.

I also started watching Two and a Half Men, the old and new seasons. The show may lack depth, but the characters are pretty enjoyable on a shallow level. Ashton Kutcher may be no Charlie Sheen, but he holds his own.

P.S. Keys to the V.I.P. was THE funniest show I had ever seen about men and dating, by far. The stunts, rejections, and funny commentators made for very very good laughs. I had so many videos of it favorited on youtube. Oh my goodness, there was this one time Peaches (I think that's his name) commented on the prepubescent way a try-hard guy tried to ask for a girl's number. I swear it was the funniest thing I had ever seen. Peaches's imitation was rude but really funny.

That show is great for a good laugh or two.

I think Walter White, the main character from Breaking Bad, is actually a really good example of the masculinity crisis that Mark wrote about in his latest article. At the beginning of the show, Walt has done nothing with his life career-wise, he gets no respect from anyone, and he has to work a shitty second job at a car wash just to make ends meet. You can look at the whole show as an attempt on his part to finally seize some masculinity that's eluded him for most if not all of his life. Of course, the way he chooses to do that-cooking and selling crystal meth-causes its own host of problems for him and his family, but it's how he chooses to try to define his own masculinity. In a lot of ways, Walter White started out as a stereotypical "modern male," but he's become something very different, and while I wouldn't suggest that anyone emulate him, it's entertaining as hell to watch.

Your self esteems comes from having success at everything in your life.

Let's start with the basic three health, career, and relationship.

-Walter has cancer lol. He is rock bottom health wise.

-Walter has shitty relationship with his wife. His wife always disrespect him.

-Walter works at shitty car wash, shitty high school teaching job and get almost zero respect from his friends for his career and his finances.

If you were to add up the score from the three pillars of his life, the score is pretty low. That score makes up for whatever self esteem you have.

Brian, I think drawing your self esteem from your present situation is exactly the problem that most men have. Who is a "better man?" The guy who can only be happy if everything is going his way, or who keeps working and does whatever he can even when shit turns south.

I think what you say have some truth to it but it's easier said than done. When shit REALLY going south, it's your subconscious that is controlling your emotion that will make you feel like shit. After all, the subconscious is the survival instinct.

I have read a while back how buddhism meditation is really the only ultimate way to happiness. While i have meditate for a reasonable amount of time in the past to see if it works, i havent really reach the state that most buddhist claim to reach. Perhaps once i have sufficient meditation, then i can really completely draw happiness from within and while everything in life can go south, it will have zero impact on my emotion.

Yeah, Walter makes a shitton of money by cooking meth, but it doesn't make him a better person. Throughout the show, he just becomes more arrogant, more violent, and more dangerous to the people around him. After what he did at the end of this season (I won't spoil it in case people haven't seen it yet), I don't think anyone could call him a good man anymore.

Yeah, I agree it's difficult. My point is more that the ideal is not just to get health, wealth, and relationships, but to get a solid sense of self that is not contingent on those things. I also don't think it's realistic to reach a state where you aren't unhappy about bad things happening. However, you can draw a distinction between that, and your sense of self worth.

It is possible to have other things going in your life to draw from beside the three above. The other things different from person to person obviously. However, the three above i mention is universal among practically everyone in the world because that is how we are raise.

It is built into our subconscious. The other things you have in your life will of course somewhat negate the feeling of negativity if you lack success in the above three by a little bit, but ultimately, you will have to go back and improve the 3 above.

The question is, how much is enough for each of us and how much do we considered a "success" in it. Is 6 digit salaries good enough to feel a good sense of self from career? Does banging a few cute girls good enough in terms of relationship? Is having a slightly chubby and somewhat healthy body good enough healthwise or does your desire for the top 1 percent levels of all three keep you unhappy.

-----------------

As for Mr Walter White. Sure, even though he made millions, there's still tons of things that can and will lower his self esteem.

1. He's constantly fear for his life: not going to ruin the show, but he doesnt feel safe and constant fear he will die. So "health wise" his score is pretty low lol.

2. He makes a lot of money, but he's a criminal. So from an identity level, he knows ethically, he's a piece of shit. Btw, no one respect him financially because no one knows he's even rich heh.

3. His wife cheats on him and still disrespect him.

So yes, while one of his pillar gets a slightly higher score, his overall score still score low..especially from the moral perspective. So this overall will have a negative effect on his self esteem.

I love Breaking Bad, keeps me on my toes. This last fourth season was just some of the best tv I've ever seen. Boardwalk Empire is really good too. Dexter was the show that expanded my attention span in the last year or so because I hadn't really watched an hour long drama since the Sopranos was on. Other than those, I like The Walking Dead, The Boondocks, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Justified. The new Showtime series Homeland looks pretty good too.

RE: What's your favorite TV shows?
I was going to start a new topic about TV until I saw this. Definitely agree with all the Breaking Bad talk, the show is definitely one of my favorites and I can't wait for the fifth season.

Right now I'm following Mad Men (another one of my favorites), Parks and Recreation and Community (which I'm not enjoying as much as I used to). I'm slowly catching up on Game of Thrones as well, after hearing all the praise for it.

I don't understand this, I have a problem understanding how is it that, so far people has failed to mention Friends (as in all times best show ever) and Game of Thrones (as in current best show ever after friends Tongue).

Apart from that, my list ordered by preference.

- Friends
- Game of Thrones
- Lost
- Angel
- Doctor Who
- Sherlok
- Battlestar Galactica
- TNG
- Firefly
- Heroes (just the first season)
- Stargate SG1
- Fringe

I torrented season 1 of game of thrones, 17 minutes in I couldn't take it. Seriously, awful, same was for the walking dead, too much feel me love me emotional crap. My TV set hasn't been plugged in in 2012. How do you guys have so much time? Only one show I really liked and that is Californication. Oh and the first few episodes of Rescue Me were quite entertaining.

RE: What's your favorite TV shows?
I've had a thing for Supernatural for quite a while now. I remember seeing fragments of episodes while flipping the channels but I was never moved enough to see it. I fell in love with the show by chance. It was during winter break. I had just woken up to that chilly morning air in the house and I was feeling light. The sun's rays were shining through the blinds and I was bored. I turned on the television and saw the show. Something kept me tuned in. I just felt like watching it. And after a couple of reruns, I was hooked. The atmosphere was dark and somewhat oppressing but oddly humorous.

I also love Sons of Anarchy. I absolutely adore the atmosphere of the show. The atmosphere of a show is what makes or breaks it for me. I like being immersed in a particular atmosphere and I know it's right when I fondly look back on the show.

OH I also love love love Nurse Jackie. If I had to recommend any series, I would recommend this one. It follows the story of a nurse addicted to opiates. I was a little apprehensive at first because I thought it would just be another House, but it's not. The drug problem is there, but it's far more convoluted. The nurse hides her addiction well, and she has to juggle it along with family, work, and more. The humor in the show is dark at times, but executed nicely. Peter Facinelli does an excellent job as the pompous, handsome, socially-inept doctor with Tourette's syndrome.

If you watch one episode, you'll know it's not another House. House's atmosphere is more dramatic than that of this show. Nurse Jackie leaves you feeling miffed and a little taken back.

Basically the only thing I'm watching right now is Game of Thrones, which is OSSUM. I haven't had a TV since I moved to London and I don't really miss it. The internet is enough of a time suck as it is.
