My opinion is they lack persistence. So guys, what are your thoughts??

Follow-Up Question:
How do you overcome that obstacle??

Life is the hardest teacher: the tests are given and the lessons are taught after. But life is also a kind teacher, as it gives the same tests again in the future.

RE: What's the main reason why people fail to accomplish their goals??
There's no 'silver bullet' to explain why people fail to accomplish their goals, just like there's not one to fix that problem.

I'd say common reasons include setting goals that they don't really want, setting unrealistic targets with those goals, not fully understanding what it will take to achieve a goal, not sufficiently planning out how they will get to a goal, committing to too many goals at once, and self-sabotaging.

The reasons these all happen are incredibly complex, and you could base an entire blog around them. Here's a couple of articles just from PM that are relevant: http://postmasculine.com/implementation-intention and http://postmasculine.com/analysis-paralysis

And I guess the answer as to how to overcome those obstacles? Set goals you actually want, be realistic in how much you can achieve in those goals, fully understand what it will take you to reach a goal, sufficiently plan out how you will achieve it, commit to only a couple or one goal at once, and know how you sabotage yourself.

Gross oversimplification right? That's because if you're asking a question this broad, the answer is going to be equally broad. If you've got a specific goal you want help with, I suggest you start a thread about it specifically, or start posting in the official lifestyle goals thread.

Unless your question was purely academic?

1. Setting unrealistic goals (wanting to be a soccer player of Cristiano Ronaldo's caliber but being 16 and never played soccer before)

2. Lack of effort and lots of daydreaming

3. Not realizing that the goal they think they want is not really the goal they want

I agree with what the two above me said.

One thing I would add is plateaus. After initial success when starting to work on a new goal, there often comes a time when doing the things one did when starting out doesn't bring (much) more success. People implemented a new habit and became comfortable with the step they took out of there comfort zone. Either are not willing to do another step to push through the plateau, or they don't realize they are on one in the first place. So they keep doing the same things over and over without getting closer to their goal.
