Want vs need

I'm having trouble rectifying being attracted to/wanting to make a girl your girlfriend - rectifying the want vs need side

I've been sporadically seeing a girl for just under a year, started out as casual sex partners, and i've really grown to enjoy the time we spend together, shes most definitely a lot of things I look for in a woman.

My conundrum comes from previous bad experiences with this sort of thing ( converting casual partners into something more), as well as realizing how needy I was before, even-though trying to play it cool, my intentions were needy

I really like this girl, but don't want to push it away by being needy

any thoughts or feedback would be greatly appreciated
