If you want a crash course in life, go travel solo
Whether you're looking for getting better at talking to girls, getting over fears, develop confidence, social skills or whatever may be that hinders you I highly encourage you to travel for a long period of time, by yourself.

I'm on the tailend of my 6 month trip through south america. I'm sipping on a few pisco sours in Lima, Peru reflecting on all the things that I been through and I can say that when I go back home, I'm going to be a completely new person (at least I hope).

I've taken a bootcamp before and nothing really compares to what being on the road alone has taught me. I became more confident, self-reliant, learned a new language, learned to cook, learned to haggle/negotiate, learned about people and with more social skills and vastly more independent than I was before. Not to mention it practically gave me 6 months worth of stories to tell making myself a more interesting person (I hope). The amount of women that I talked to was the most I talked to combined in my entire life.

I met Mark, Zac, Tim and all the other interns when I was in Medellin and I remember Zac telling me to post about my adventures but to tell you the truth, I've had so many I really don't know where to start so I thought I'd post something like this to get the ball rolling.

If you're having any trouble with your social life, I highly recommend traveling solo for a long period of time. It's a great character builder and will make you a more interesting person in the long run.

RE: If you want a crash course in life, go travel solo
I've traveled enough by myself that I think I've decided I'd much travel in a group or at least with another person in future.

Having said that, traveling alone was one of the most empowering things I've ever done. It forced me to try new things and to meet new people, it gave me a sense of self-belief when things went wrong, it made me see a whole range of perspectives I had never encountered, and it left me more relaxed as I went about my life.

Like I said above, I'd prefer to travel with others in future, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of times when I won't be able to. I'm looking forward to the challenges and experiences that creates for me when I do.

I've traveled a decent amount solo mostly due to work and it's an adventure every time. I hate traveling in huge groups cause it's such a hassle to organize huge groups of people and it's hard to branch out to do exactly what you want. Ideally I like to go in groups of 2 or 3 to places... having someone else around can save your ass sometimes! Like if you need someone better versed in smooth talking or the local language... or bail money.

I'd say both traveling with people and solo are great for different reasons. I'd only travel with a maximum of 2 other people at a time. anything more then that just becomes a huge cluster fuck.

Traveling with another person is amazing because of the connection you build with the other person. I traveled with a russian girl for a month and we built an extremely strong relationship but by yourself you are forced to adapt, become self reliant and totally independent. It's very different things, I think traveling alone definitely builds your character a lot more if that's what you're looking for. not to mention its an adventure everytime you meet or do something new. With another person or with a group of people you have that safe zone.

But I was curious , how could you afford for such a long period of time? You 've stayed in hotels or rent an appartment? I want to to do it also but I am confused about how much I will have to spend

I saved up for a year, lived at home and didn't really spend any money for that year. No debt or any obligations. I spent around probably 13 gs total on my trip.

I stayed at hostels (usually 10 dollars a night) mostly either that or camping.
