Freaking out about an STD...girl I had sex with used to have cervical cancer
I had sex with a girl yesterday, who told me she had cervical cancer, I had no idea that it's caused by an HPV. I just googled it when I got home... I used a condom for the most part, but there was a brief window of about 5 mins, where I didn't have it on....ughhhhh, so stupid of me. She also went down on me throughout out the night and I also gave her oral sex at one point. What should I do now? What tests can I take to see if I am clean?

You realize that more than 80% of people get HPV at some point, right?

Mate relax. There's nothing you can or need to do about this. HPV is pretty endemic, there are different types too, named with numbers. Men don't suffer any symptoms. So if you got it, it won't harm you.

And by the way a condom doesn't protect you against HPV anyway.

It's a bit like herpes, skin contact can be enough for infektion. condoms help prevent infection but they're not proven to prevent them. You're more likely to already have some strain of HPV, so do i.

try googling. Seriously, nothing to worry about.

[h=3]From the CDC page

How common are HPV and related diseases?[/h]
HPV (the virus). Approximately 20 million Americans are currently infected with HPV. Another 6 million people become newly infected each year. HPV is so common that at least 50% of sexually active men and women get it at some point in their lives.

For those who choose to be sexually active, condoms may lower the risk of HPV. To be most effective, they should be used with every sex act, from start to finish. Condoms may also lower the risk of developing HPV-related diseases, such as genital warts and cervical cancer. But HPV can infect areas that are not covered by a condom - so condoms may not fully protect against HPV.

From the wikipedia.

Most HPV infections in young females are temporary and have little long-term significance. Seventy percent of infections are gone in 1 year and ninety percent in 2 years.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that male "condom use may reduce the risk for genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infection" but provides a lesser degree of protection compared with other sexual transmitted diseases "because HPV also may be transmitted by exposure to areas (e.g., infected skin or mucosal surfaces) that are not covered or protected by the condom."[SUP][56]
[/SUP]
HPV is estimated to be the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States.[SUP][98][/SUP] Most sexually active men and women will probably acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives.[SUP][93][/SUP] The American Social Health Associationreported estimates that about 75-80% of sexually active Americans will be infected with HPV at some point in their lifetime.[SUP][99][/SUP][SUP][100][/SUP] By the age of 50 more than 80% of American women will have contracted at least one strain of genital HPV.

Yeah, you may have HPV depending on when she had it. Chances are she didn't actually have cervical cancer, but just had a biopsy to remove some cells from her cervix. Cervical cancer takes years to develop in HPV-infected individuals.

And no, condoms don't protect from it. And there are few to no symptoms in men. And yes, something like 80% of the population gets affected by HPV at some point in their lives.

Anyone who's been with more than 5-10 girls probably has some sort of strain.
