Building Social Proof in Engineering Program?
I'm in an engineering program at college and I have virtually no time to be "partying every weekend", even though I want to. What other means are there to build up social proof as the "go to guy for fun" without having to get smashed every weekend?

RE: Building Social Proof in Engineering Program?
"No time" is always a little hard to believe. It's like people who say they have "no time" to work out. You can make time if you feel it's important enough.
Here's some ideas:
1) When in class and especially in group projects, be social and get to know your classmates. If you have a chance to take the lead on something, do so.
2) Throw a party at your dorm or apartment and invite people from your class, guys and girls.
3) Talk to your classmates about what they're doing, chances are many of them are going to parties, and if you make a good, cool, social impression during class, they'll invite you to go.
4) If your school offers other social clubs or volunteer efforts, join that and then invite your classmates.
5) After a big project and/or when your class achieves a milestone, arrange a happy hour at a bar you've been to a few times prior so you're comfortable when you take your group.
You can call it social proof or whatever, but long before that phrase was invented, it was simply called "popularity". It doesn't take a lot for a guy to be "popular"....just be INTERESTED in people and make sure you take initiative in planning a couple of social events.
