RIM has been unable to adapt their products to a constantly changing external environment that Apple has completely dominated. I think the only way they find success again is by truly innovating, and I don't see that happening with this company anymore.

Their failure depends on the management, their success depends on the R&D department. So long as their management doesn't screw things up by leveraging everything on a comeback, then RIM will be around for a long time as just another mediocre phone company.
